Autumn is something I’ve never quite caught up with as cooler seasons are always off for us in the Gulf (and lets face it most of us residing in the East). So when September rolls around, with the kids going back to school, some parents dealing with drop offs & pick ups, the only thing I really care about is how to survive not only the heat but the surge in humidity (up to 90% on some days! 🥵). I decided, back in 2021, to test a theory out— if I wear the most natural/organic of fibers, it might make this tough season (& pick up at 1 pm) more tolerable. I committed to wearing whatever I had in my closet, with the highest of natural fabric content every day for the entire month. I’m talking silks, cottons & linens the closest to 100% & I’m happy to report that it did help. How you ask? Well, I managed to help my skin, our largest organ, to breathe. By breathe, I meant sweat & yes it was nasty BUT because the fabrics were natural, the clothes absorbed the sweat allowing my body to cool off naturally. I try to practice it as much as possible every September since then because I really do notice a difference where most synthetic fabrics & clothing end up holding heat in, making me not only super duper angry from 12 PM till about 4 PM, but also leading my face to flush faster & the sweat to sit & gather in sensitive areas instead of seeping embarrassingly in & eventually drying off.
